Agro Cooperation Between Indonesia, Australia to Be Signed This Week

The Indonesian and Australian governments will sign an agreement on agricultural cooperation this week, during the visit of Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia David Littleproud.

On January 25-28, the Minister will be in Indonesia to meet various key figures in agricultural sectors. And at the end of his stay in Indonesia, he is planned to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will see the two countries collaborating on a number of initiatives related to the agricultural sector.

“Cooperation is the bedrock of our relationship, with Australia and Indonesia partnering on initiatives to advance agricultural development, support food security, and build robust agri-food sectors in both our countries,” Littleproud said in a statement on Tuesday, January 25.

He added that the mutual trade between Indonesia and Australia in agriculture, fisheries, and forestry topped AU$4 billion in 2020-2021 period, and it’s an export market currently worth AU$2.9 billion to Australian farmers, fishers, and foresters.

The Australian government looks forward to further increase the value through collaboration with both government and business stakeholders.

“Increasing that trade is an invaluable opportunity to put more high-quality food on tables in both our nations,” the Minister stated.

Among some of his planned trips, the Australian representative will visit Bogasari Flour Mill which is one of Australia’s single largest agricultural commodity customers in Indonesia. He will also meet Indonesian agribusiness representatives from the horticulture, grains, red meat and live cattle sectors.

And ultimately, a meeting with Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo will also be held where the MoU signing is planned to take place.
